June 5 is celebrated every year as the World Environment Day, engaging governments, businesses and citizens in an effort to address pressing environmental issues. This World Environment Day will kick off the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, a global mission to revive billions of hectares, from forests to farmlands, from the top of mountains to the depth of the sea.
We are losing and destroying the foundations of our survival at an alarming rate. Every three seconds, the world loses enough forest to cover a football pitch and over the last century we have destroyed half of our wetlands.
Every individual has a fundamental duty towards the protecting the environment. Be a part of the #GenerationRestoration
On the occasion of World Environment Day and End Plastic Soup Action Day, members of Rotaract Scheveningen also contributed. We took part in a beach clean-up campaign to clear the shores of Scheveningen beach. It was a nice day for us to clean the beach, enjoy a coffee and meet in person while maintaining the necessary social distance.

On May 20th, members of our club and guests attended in the first of our Peace series webinars, which was devoted to the topic “Iran Nuclear Deal: Past, Present, Future”.
This webinar featured a high-level speaker, Joakim Vaverka, who serves as the Deputy Director of Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI). Before joining SIPRI in September 2020, he was Head of Political Affairs at the Permanent Mission of Sweden to the United Nations in New York. Prior to this position, he was Head of the Global Division of the Security Policy Department at the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
Mr. Vaverka’s informative presentation provided a solid ground for an interesting follow-up discussion on the future political developments in Iran, and geopolitical setup in the Middle East region in general.
Thank you Joakim Vaverka for the interesting presentation!
