Sinterklaas 2022

Sinterklaas 2022

This last December we repeated what might be our favourite event of the year: bringing Sinterklaas to children and women who cannot stay in their homes due to domestic violence.

Thanks to various donations we were able to buy presents for all 30 children and 22 parents.

On December 4th we had fun wrapping all the presents and making the last preparations for the big night.

On December 5th we were warmly welcomed at the location, suited up our Sinterklaas and Petes and went to meet with the families.

While being impressed to meet Sinterklaas, children welcomed us with joyful songs.

Our two Petes entertained everyone with silly dances, crazy jokes, and delicious pepernoten.

Seeing the smile on their faces was priceless and a wonderful gift for us.

We would like to thank Stichting Perspektief for their support in making this possible, and for the help of Admiral and his friends.

Canal Cleanup for End Plastic Soup

Canal Cleanup for End Plastic Soup

This year, Rotaract Scheveningen Club cleaned the canals of the Hague city as part of the End Plastic Soup action day on June 4th. This was just a day before World Environment Day.

We started with a canoe near Bierkade and did a full circle collecting plastic and trash in the city canals. By cleaning the canals, we avoid trash especially floating plastic entering the oceans.

It was a good day to do some outdoor activity and thank you to all the people who encouraged us!

Weekend with Local City Farm and Food Bank

Weekend with Local City Farm and Food Bank

In the past weekend, members of our club helped with 2 activities.

The first one was with the local city farm, Stadsboerderij Schildershoeve, where we planted some flowers and installed a plane spring swing for children to have fun with, now that the spring is here. People working at the farm were happy with the result!

The second activity was to collect non-perishable items for a social shop of Scheveningen, Schappelijk. The Social Shop Schappelijk offers extra help for the residents of Scheveningen, who find themselves in a delicate financial situation. Members of Rotaract Scheveningen, Rotary Scheveningen and Schappelijk were placed at 5 different supermarkets near the Scheveningen beach. With the help of the residents, we were able to collect 235 crates of non-perishable products.

It’s time for Bingo!

It’s time for Bingo!

Yesterday, members of Rotaract Scheveningen went to play bingo with the elderly with dementia living in a nursing home. We had a very nice time with the elderly and bingo can be anything but boring.
